Before we get into things, I have slowed down posting the past few weeks because I have some pretty big news coming. I want to wait until it’s official but there’s a big change coming in my life that I can’t wait to share with everyone! Now back to the Creative Sparks.
This week is all about tuning into yourself—your values, your quirks, your voice—and letting those inner sparks fuel your creativity, and how you show up in the world.
Do Marketing Your Own Way
Let’s rethink the way we feel about marketing. We put everything into our creative work so our marketing should be a reflection of who we are. That’s why I love this post from former interview guest Jacque Aye . She shows that marketing is just bringing in parts of yourself without always shouting “buy my book”. It’s a great way to show your interests and things you enjoy outside of your work.
Channel Your Inner Kermit the Frog
There’s a lot we can learn from fictional characters about how live a better life. Just look at this tweet encouraging us to be like Kermit the Frog. The post is pretty self-explanatory but for those of you on screen readers just remember to be creative, get the best out of those around you, attract “weirdos”, show kindness, and be sincere. If we all lived life like this, the world would be a much better place!
Find Your Voice
Chris McCarthy hits the nail on the head with this Tiktok. The thing that makes us stand out the most is finding our own voice and presenting it to the world. No one else will do things the way you do. So lean all the way into that idea and let your voice shine!
If you enjoy my work or find it helpful, I'd be so grateful if you considered supporting me with a cup of coffee. Every bit helps and keeps the creativity flowing!
In Case You Missed It
Short this week, but here are some recent highlights.
Tess McCarthy and I are working on SLART’s Global Zine idea. Here’s a quick post from Tess talking about it.
Here’s the publication if you want to follow along!
This Week’s Creativity Card
This is something that is especially important for creative souls. We love creative work but sometimes it can be too much and lead to burnout. Just remember to always replenish your creative juices!
My Response
I’m going to take this prompt in a slightly different direction and talk about what replenishes my creative energy. Some of my favorites are below:
The first is taking breaks to let ideas ruminate. Often times ideas will suddenly pop up in my head and I always wonder when I first thought about it.
Another is don’t forget to play. I’m not saying this is for everyone but my personal creativity is fueled by joy. So I try to remember to make things fun as often as I can.
And the last is to connect with people in the creative community. That’s why Substack is one of my favorite places on the internet. It’s fulled with wonderfully amazing people like you!
What replenishes your creative energy? Let me know in the comments or restack your story!
💡Fun Fact: By the way, I have a digital deck with over 600 creative prompts covering everything from storytelling to burnout recovery. Want to help test more? Let me know in the comments!
If you found this helpful or inspiring, consider supporting my work by buying me a coffee. And if you're looking for more creative inspiration, check out my book We Are All Creative — it's full of prompts and quotes to fuel your creativity every day!
If you have any ideas for creative sparks leave them in the comments. I’d love to hear what’s sparking your creativity right now.
Until next time, stay motivated and stay creative.
