Let’s Get Serious… About Play
Chase Jarvis, the creative genius behind Creative Live and author of Never Play It Safe, used his podcast to talk about the power of play in everyday life. I love how he champions incorporating play into the things we do and how it makes our work meaningful.
I also recently read a book by Stuart Brown MD about the power of play and why it is essential for all of us to make space for play. It’s not only a way to pass the time. It’s hardwired into all of us, even wild animal!
Get Your Book Translated
Shout out to Stephanie Graham (she/her) 🪩 for letting me know about this tool! Inchword helps people translate books and is used by over 300 translators, editors, and reviewers to translate books into 30 languages!
If you ever thought about having your book translated, check it out. It was created by Derek Sivers, a well known author in his own right. Here’s an article/reading of why Derek created the tool and the reasoning behind how it works.
Are Black Authors Missing?
Nadine Matheson wrote a passionate piece calling out the tired storyline: that Black authors are somehow “missing” from publishing. The issue isn’t that they’re missing. The issue is a lack of visibility and support.
Publishers keep labeling Black authors as “risks” while offering them little to no marketing or long-term investment. I love how she’s asking for action from publishers and platforms to stop playing it safe and actually show up.
The Empowered & Embodied Show
I am part of a wonderful group called Feminist Podcasters Collective, run by Becky Mollenkamp, where we promote member podcasts. This week we are spotlighting The Empowered & Embodied Show hosted by Kim Romain and Louise Neil. The podcast explores what it truly means to be gloriously, messily human. If you want a personal growth podcast with wit, wisdom, and a healthy dose of self-deprecation this show is for you.
In Case You Missed It
This Week’s Creativity Card
Love this prompt. We are often trapped by what already exists in this world. Sometimes we just need to make things up!
My response
Creativocity is the momentum you gain from being more creative. Without creativity, everything feels slow—like trudging through mud. But when we tap into our creativity, things start to flow. We break free from the sludge and move faster toward our goals.
The best part? It’s not just about speed. It’s about having more fun. When we embrace creativity, the process becomes enjoyable. Less grind, more joy. So, here’s to building our creativocity!
