The Standout Creatives Manifesto
That’s what this place is about. But it didn’t start that way.
This publication was formerly called Standout Authors.
It made sense at the time. I was helping writers with their books, launch projects, and systems around their creative work. The audience was clear. The message was focused.
But something kept happening.
The people showing up weren’t just authors. They were writers, designers, entrepreneurs, photographers, podcasters, and people who didn’t even consider themselves “creatives”.
They all had one thing in common: they were people trying to figure out how to do work that actually matters to them. Not in a, I am trying to change the world way. In a, I finally discovered what kind of life I want to live way.
Underneath almost every conversation was a bigger question than “how do I market my book.”
It was: how do I build a life I actually want?
That question is what this publication is really about. So it’s time to evolve. Standout Authors is now The Standout Creatives (which also happens to be the name of one of my podcasts). It’s a broader home for anyone doing creative work and trying to build something meaningful around it.
That doesn’t mean I’m no longer working with authors. In fact, that means I get to work with more types of authors.
A Little About Me
My name is Kevin Chung.
For 17 years I had a stable job, my dream house, and a life that looked great on paper. I was also a designer, a marketer, a podcaster, and someone who kept telling himself he’d get to the creative work someday.
Someday kept getting delayed.
On Valentine’s Day 2025 my wife Anita and I sat at a Mexican restaurant, while everyone around us had a romantic evening, and made a list that changed our lives. Six months later we sold our house, sold most of what we owned, and moved to Costa Rica.
I’m not telling you to move to Costa Rica.
I’m telling you that the life you actually want is closer than it feels and the creative work you keep putting off is exactly what leads you there.
That’s what this publication is about.
Where Are You Right Now?
